Wednsday @ the Shop

Hi Flaunters,

It is a hive of activity in the workroom today with several ladies, along with little Jodie and Leonie, busily creating 6x6 layouts for the SCKC drive we have going. We will be having these sessions frequently and encourage everyone to join us. Today, we have added at least another 44 layouts to our total, which means we should reach about 110 in total today. Go Girls!

Can you help these kids?

Take a look at this blog, and I dare you not to want to get involved and help ;)http://www.juliestone.typepad.com

Here's a basic run-down. Southern Cross Kids Camp run week long camps for abused and at-risk kids across Australia. The kids 'Buddies' create memory books that focus on their holiday week , that sadly might be the only happy childhood memories recorded for them. A fellow scrapper helped out at two of the SCKC camps held early this year and helped create gorgeous “Scrapped” memory books……they were the best ones yet, easier for the tired buddies and treasured beyond imagination by the children. The books were so successful, the Australian Directors contacted her and asked if all Nine of the camps in Australia and NZ could get the same albums! 325 kids memory albums!!! As you could imagine, to achieve that they need your help!

Here at Scrap It Flaunt it we have decided that we would love to take up such a worthy cause and we are asking our loyal customers to help us to achieve this.

What can we do to help?
We can take the pressure off the Buddies by creating as many 6x6 layouts we possibly can. Then all they need to do is add photos & journaling then get a good night's sleep :)

How many?
They need about 6300 pages ... surely we as scrappers or crafters can help make these children's albums a reality!!! Make 2, make 6, make 12 ... make as many as you can. These pages are for camps for the entire year, not just the 2 that Julie is attending. Exciting stuff!

So far the ladies of "Scrap It Flaunt It" have contributed 56 layouts and we have set a target of 1000!

What can I do?
You can dig into your stash (I know you've got a big stash of papers & cardstock ;) LOL) or use the growing stash here at the shop ... and start creating. Here's what you need to make:

Pages that are 6" x 6".

Layouts will contan one photo per page (approx 5" x 3.5"), add a photo mat (I cut mine 14cm x 10cm).

Make a space for a bit of journaling.

No need to punch holes ... they're being put into 6x6 page protectors in a 6x6 album

Colours - try for neutral, brights, muted, multi coloured, they need boys and girls pages but usually need more boy pages… bold colours are great as they suit both Girls & Boys. Make the page so that it will suit a portrait or landscape photo (can be turned on it's side). Where can I see an example? On Julie's blog. Real fancy designs aren’t necessary, simple is best
Try making the same layout using different papers or a few designs with co-ordinating!

How long have we got?
The camps will run through 09 But to be repackaged and sorted they will need to reach Julie anywhere between Mid to late March 09.Where do I send them? You can bring them into Scrap it Flaunt it and we will stock pile them to be sent on to Julie

No time?
Simply don't have time to create, but really want to contribute. Your old stash need a good home? Some left over odds and ends taking up space? You can contact Julie via her blog or email juliest35@optusnet.com.au as they need embellishments and alphabets for the buddies to decorate the front covers. Another option is to drop off your donations to us at the shop, William St, Armadale, WA.

Are you keen? Are you excited?
I know we are. We challenge everyone who is able to donate to this worthy cause to rise to the occasion and create for these kids in need. You might be thinking ... I can only do 2 layouts ... well ... that's 2 more than they had before :)

Do you get together with friends to scrap or do craft? Why not challenge your group to create a couple of pages each? Been looking for an excuse to hook up with other Scrappers in your area? Clear the dining table and scrap up a storm.

Kids enjoy scrapbooking? Get them involved making a couple of pages for other kids who don't have as great a life as they do, a brilliant way of sharing some meaningful time and teaching them about helping out those in need..

Or you can come down to Scrap IT Flaunt It on a Wednesday and create some of these layouts with design team members Leonie Vellender and Jodi Belton :0)

SCKC need our help, we can make a real difference and all with our left over scraps!!

Come on! Lets try put a smile on a Childs Face!

Thanks.
Little Jodi

Scrap It Flaunt It Newsletter #32

Hello Fellow Flaunters!

Christmas is coming, and fast!!!!!

There are only 41 days to Santa’s arrival. Are you ready?, you have probably thought of gifts for everyone else but forgotten yourself! Luckily we offer a Christmas Wish List and Gift Voucher Services at the shop. Call us or pop into the shop to complete your wish list and then direct your loved ones to us so that you have a chance of getting what you really want.

Not wanting to make anyone jealous, but we had a great time at camp! 44 hours of freedom to scrap, chat, eat, be silly and bond. We would like to thank all our Fabulous Flaunters who joined us. Congratulations to Janea for winning the Camp Challenge by producing a stunning layout (some of the layouts are on display in the shop) and to Angela for winning “Best Name Tag”. We also had an amazing raffle that we held. There were 4 prizes with a regular Flaunter taking first prize of a Making Memories Suede Tote packed full of goodies. Before the weekend had even finished we had people wanting to put their names down for the next camp! To check out photos of the weekend just go to http://www.scrapitflaunt.blogspot.com/, more are being uploaded as they come in from our wonderful Flaunter Ladies.

Last fortnights newsletter generated some feedback in regards to the article where we explored why we scrapbook. There were many comments in relation to people feeling overwhelmed by others abilities, people who felt their pages were inferior to those of people they scrapped with or knew. It is hard not to admire other people and wish you could create masterpieces like them. The worse thing is, people who do not think they have a flair for scrapbooking, actually do,....they just lack self confidence…….you know who you are! Are you one of the people who can see the mistakes even when others tell you it looks great? It is important to remember that your work will be seen and cherished by your family and your closest friends. They won’t be looking at your page thinking that you forgot the triangle rule or you used even numbers instead of odd. Your family will be thinking about how you cared enough to take the time to capture the memories for them.

Someone told me recently that the ‘why’ of scrapbooking can & has been forgotten and people need to simplify. Get back to basics. The picture, the story, the rest should come easily. Don’t forget the story!

New Staff Member
As most of you are aware, we have employed another part time staff member. The girls at Scrap It Flaunt It would like to officially welcome Leonie Vellander to our staff. For a good cause

A couple of weeks something happened to one of our regulars, who has also become a dear friend (Bianca), something that nobody would ever wish for – her house was destroyed in a fire. Bianca has asked us to pass on her thanks for your generosity. Through raffles, Scrap N Yap fees and donations we managed to raise over $400.
Thankfully Bianca and Jason were insured.
Most of us don’t really realise that if we tried to replace everything we own, we would probably be underinsured. Remember it’s not just the big things like tv’s and furniture you have to replace, it’s the little things like knickers, hair ties, that ugly gravy boat Aunt Maud gave you! So please check that your smoke detectors are in working order and insurance valuations are realistic.
We are so thankful that Bianca and her family are all safe and sound.

Also as many of you will be aware we have a number of little things on the go here at the shop to raise funds for Teen Spirit and the Angelman Syndrome Association, one of those things is our old magazine corner. Here you can go through old scrapbooking and paper crafting magazines and purchase them for a gold coin donation.

ALWAYS OF SERVICE…

We have a variety of other services that we offer here at Scrap It - Flaunt It, they include:

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING. 6pm till 9pm, during Scrap N Yaps. Please come to the rear of the building. (THIS Saturday)

GIFT VOUCHERS – A gift voucher is always the perfect solution for any scrapbooker. This allows them to choose exactly what they like.

WISH LISTS – Christmas is coming, and fast!!!!! get in early - for those with family and friends who don’t know what to buy you! All you have to do is come into the shop and fill out your list, let them know to contact us and we will do the rest!!!

8 WEEK LAY BY – Available to all with only a 10% deposit followed by with regular payments.

CHILDRENS BIRTHDAY PARTIES – We work with you to plan a project for the attendees. We will supply the teacher, product, lollies on the tables as well as a small gift for the birthday child. You can bring along the party food or cake for after the lesson. Call the shop for more details.

Until next week,
Happy Scrapping,

The Inaugural Flaunter Camp 2008...

Has been and gone and we want it back! We already have requests for the next camp and people wanting to list for it! We feel like rock stars!

It was wonderful to relax and scrap without the hubby, kids or chores, we normally have in our daily lives, interrupting us. The 29 Flaunters who descended upon Woodman Point Rec Camp on Friday evening, enjoyed having their meals cooked for them, the clean up taken care of and if they wanted to avail themselves, the services of a Beautician, who could get out those knots of scrapping tension!
Along with spot prizes we had a raffle, a Best Layout from the camp challenge pack and the best name tag competitions. Congratulations to Lorraine for winning 1st prize in our raffle, Jenae for best layout and Angela for best name tag.
My greatest lasting memory will probably be the laughter and cheekiness that pervaded the weekend.

We will be posting more photos over the next couple of days, but here are some of the ones that I took on an evening stroll to the beach. It was heavenly.

Happy Scrappin for now
Maureen

Bianca's Night

Tonight was our weekly Scrap N Yap. It was a fabulous and fun night with 12 ladies attending and various visitors. The attendance fee and proceeds from all raffles was donated to Bianca, Jason and their young family. We would like to thank Nicole from TwiddleyBitz for her generosity in suppling us with her wonderful chipboard products which were used for spot prizes through the evening. The major raffle was won by, DRUM ROLL PLEASE .... Rose Roberts who won $100 to spend in store!

Thanks to the kindness of our customers we were able to give over $400 to Bianca.

It has been very gratifying to see the generosity of our customers, from heartful wishes to goods and money being donated.

Bianca would like us to pass on her thanks for the massive generosity that was unexpected but greatly appreciated.

We would like to remind you that it is important to constantly review your insurance as it is amazing to realise how many people underestimate the true cost of replacing ALL their possessions. Many of the insurance companies now have online contents valuation sheets that you can work through. 1/2 hour spent today, can save alot of tears in the future.
